Wow very though provoking post. I am a guilt-ridden fan of the 40% off coupon too and use them mainly for adhesives and albums. For the last couple of years I've been buying the majority of my "new" supplies at scrapbooking yardsales at my local store. I am not a CHA attendee either (although I did go when it was here in Florida) so I am also satisfying my taste for the new CHA stuff by scraplifting some of the layouts from the sneak peeks.

I am bummed about Roberts closing. Where am I going to go now when I want to just wander around soaking up all that wonderful inspiration?

This is the first I have heard of Robert's closing. I no longer live in Utah, but it was my first 'scrapbook' store in 1995. So, so sad. I love your honesty about CHA too. Great post as always.

We are all sad about Roberts at our house. Dh likes the beads for his silly scout stories, ds likes the scary stuff at halloween, and I am a 40% off coupon addict. I don't like Hobby Lobby. I don't love Michael's. Joanne's . . . well, they just aren't the same, and you can't have 40% off EVERY DAY.

If I were a scrapper, I would be all over alphabet stickers, too. :)

You should try ebay, there are some great sellers up there that sell huge lots that are 50% or more off of retail. I like one called "Craftyhappy", just search "scrapbook lots". It is fun bidding too, sometimes you get even cheaper than what you bid!!

While I'm sad about Robert's (and only could go there when I visited a child at BYU), it is funny that you see Hobby Lobby as the WalMart of craft supplies! We've had a Hobby Lobby and a Michael's a mile or two away for a decade at least--Hobby Lobby is the little guy! And they have 40% off coupons, regularly have 50% off on papers and adhesives as well, so you still can get cheap adhesive. You are right though--neither Michaels or HL has the new stuff (and the Orem Michaels is AWFUL). We have two local scrapbook stores in my smallish city, but the taste of the owners does not match mine, so I still have to get the good stuff when I come to Utah. Our closest Archivers is an hour away in Denver--I'm more likely to go in Orem!

ITA about Roberts, although I thought the ladies who worked there were always having a bad day.
Or maybe it was just my luck.
CHA is not as cool as you would think.
