Ali Shaw: The Girl with Glass Feet: A Novel
Beautifully written magical realism set in the mysterious St. Hauda's Land. Made me want to photograph less and live more. (****)
Alice Sebold: THE LOVELY BONES
Re-read with a few friends—and I think I enjoyed it more this time than the first. (****)
Anne Stevenson: Anne Stevenson: Selected Poems (American Poets Project)
Anne Stevenson's poems have had a tremendous impact on my own writing. This collection was printed under the "Neglected Masters Award" banner, so I bought and read it (even though I also own her collected poems) simply because she shouldn't be neglected. (*****)
Mark Haddon: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
A quick read—I read it in less than a day—about an autistic boy, a dead dog, the ghost of a mother, and the choices parents make. Funny and sweet, but it left me unable to write very well for a few days. (***)
Patrick Ness: The Knife of Never Letting Go: Chaos Walking: Book One
Todd and Viola's heartpounding adventures on New World, where you can hear everyone's thoughts but still not know what's really going on. One of those can't-put-down reads. (****)
Ray Bradbury: Fahrenheit 451
One of my favorite dystopian novels. (*****)
