The DH has been bugging me lately about reorganizing the freezer. It's just one of those things I never get around to doing (put another tick mark by my ever-growing row of them in the "horrible housewife" column and lets move on).
Last night, though, fate, or karma, or bad luck, or whatever, conspired against me. Jake, being helpful, took a few things out to the freezer yesterday for me. And yeah...he didn't close the door all the way. So, when I left this morning for my yoga class, I discovered an enormous puddle under the freezer. Sigh.
You know, dietary restraint is all to blame. After dinner last night, I kept talking myself down from an ice cream bar. If I'd just given in, I'd have discovered the open door much earlier. Lesson learned: always give in to ice cream cravings.
I had big plans for today. Instead, I'll be cooking half-way defrosted hamburger meat all day. And feeling grateful that, while the freezer was cluttered, most of the stuff was in the back, and hardly defrosted at all. Mostly I just had to throw away ice cream and Popsicles.
Plus, the DH got his wish. The freezer is now reorganized.
Heh Lesson learned: always give in to ice cream cravings.
Truer words!

Why was it your job to reorganize the freezer, if DH is the one who was bugged by it? Just wondering...
And any ideas for using up that hamburger meat?

I hate doing that too, only I am the one who deals with the freezer and gets more bugged than Jeff so it gets done every now and then. P.s. I ALWAYS give in to ice cream ;) Cold stone is my BIGGEST weakness it's a good thing I am pregnant right now!!

My friend & her Dh were cleaning out his parent's freezer on a visit recently and found a package of chicken dated 1995.... crazy huh! You never know what will get lost in the deep freeze if you have one long enough I guess. You know the Fridge and freezer are 2 jobs I rarely get to unless I have a problem like the one you mentioned. Someone dumps something in the fridge that just HAS to be cleaned up and that's when the fridge gets cleaned. The icemaker malfunctions and sprays my kitchen floor and the inside 0f my freezer with water... freezer gets cleaned out! Not a fun job BUT Thank heaven for modern freezers with built in defrosters. I can remember my mom with all the food out of the deep freeze on the floor insulated by blankets and her chipping away the accumulated frost. I don't believe I will ever have to do THAT!

Ha Ha Ha! This is so funny cuz, just a few months ago the exact same thing happened at our house! Only everything (including the years supply of meat) was completely ruined! One of my dear sweet children didn't bother to make sure the door was closed... still not sure how long it was left open. Oh well, such is life. "Smiles don't take up shelf space."

Thanks for re-teaching me that valuable life-lesson of always giving in to my ice-cream urges!
My hubby is OCD-orderly and for years rode my tail about my less-than-OCD housekeeping. He has mellowed quite a bit in the last few years and is far more gracious now. I truly thank the Lord for this change because the tension always made our relationship difficult. He actually had a counselor who told him, "if it bothers you, then you are the one who should be dealing with it."
Sorry that you had to deal with the mess, but glad that things got resolved (it made me smile and think about how every time we go to my in-laws' house, Grandpa drills the boys over whether they closed the basement freezer door all the way!)
