What a great idea: when I run, it's my way of saying "Thank you for a body that can run." I gotta remember that.

I always remember Eric Liddell's line from Chariots of Fire: "I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure." If you change "fast" to simply "able to run," it still works.

Thank you for posting this. I want to be a runner, but I can't. Not now, and maybe not ever. It's been hard to say goodbye to, which is strange because I haven't "been a runner" for almost 5 years...even so, dreams die hard, ya know?

Amy - You stated it so perfectly! I've been on all sides of this equation. Been in the runner category, want to be a runner category and the injured category. Which for any runner/want to be runner is so very painful both mentally and emotionally. I always try to think about how I can better honor my ability to run (knowing this could change at any time) or honor those that for some reasonare are unable. I came to the conclusion that waking up to that really early morning alarm, lacing up those shoes and hitting the road with appreciation and gratitude is the best way, at least that I know of. I, too, am so grateful and I try to remember that while running - this is a priveledge something that I need to cherish and respect. I also try to keep in mind those that can't for whatever reason -- do my best to honor them... maybe mentally have them with me in a way. I know that sounds cheesy, but it is part of it for me. Anyhow, loved your post - would love to lace up and go on a nice long run with you one day! :)

Amy, help! I didn't see where I could e-mail you! a couple of years ago you shared about a search engine where you typed in your favorite author and then a screen pulled up and it listed other authors you might like. the ones closet to the name were most similar! I loved that search engine - - only problem is now I can't remember the name of it - (I had it bookmarked on my old computer). Do you remember the name of it?
