I am so glad that you reached the conclusion that you did. The boys don't need another boy (or man). They need just the opposite, which is you. They need the kind of love and nurturing that only a mother can give them. I believe that mothers teach boys the other side of life - the things that may not come naturally but the things they still need to know - kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion. I have only one son and when he was born, I thought 'what am I going to do with him'? Even though I had older brothers, I knew nothing about a boys world. But he delighted me so (and still does at the ripe old age of 20) and I adore him, in part, because he is so different. Because he can play football and baseball, which I could never do. I am not a sports fan either but never missed one of his games (and there were A LOT of them). My greatest prayer is that I will be the voice in his head. On the lighter side, my father used to joke that the dad throws the ball for hours with his son but when he goes on national TV, he always says 'thanks Mom'. I have no doubt that you are a great boy mom!

I am right there with you, on every point.

Except the cheese throwing. I haven't done that yet!

Thanks for your comment, Beth! I like your idea of being the voice in his head. Im going to keep remembering that!

I have three boys too, two of them teenagers. This is the hardest stage for me yet. And I'm like you, no matter how hard I try, I can't get used to the purposeful burping (and other strange sounds). I had a friend, also with boys, that thought it was hysterical. I'm doing my best to at least not find it annoying. Beautiful essay!
