Valene Chipman

Thanks Amy! This is so very, very true. I miss all four of mine, but am grateful for all of the time together. Just remember that there is joy in every stage and you will do well.

I read this article a week ago after a particularly hard few weeks of parenting and it made me burst into tears-- it gets harder? MORE complicated? Higher stakes?! Sigh. I had a good cry and hoped that the writer (sorry) would feel sorry for being a bully. But then after a good cry (and a good night of sleep) I picked myself up more ready and more focused to face parenting now as it might help parenting THEN, and I feel so much more prepared. Not to mention sympathetic to the friends of mine who have small kids like mine and ALSO teenagers. Thanks for a reality check, what a great article.

My mom always used to say to me, "You're wishing your life away," when I was a teenager and I couldn't wait to go to high school or get my driver's license or get my first job...now I say the same thing to my Mom friends when they can't wait for their children to go to kindergarten so they'll have a few hours free during the day or get their driver's licenses so they won't have to drive them around everywhere anymore. You're wishing your life away...as difficult as those days are, that time is so so precious with our children. My youngest of three is about to be a senior in high school, and I so wish I had those days back again.
