Oh honey! This is just lovely and heartbreaking and I can only read it while looking sidelong at it for dreading when it's my turn for this. It all happens too fast. Too too too too fast.

He's a good boy. Listen to the advice you gave me when I was a new mom: it's hard, but you will find your new normal. Love you, and him, and all of you.

Oh Amy...what a timely post for me to read! Our oldest left this morning to begin a new teaching job in another state. She's actually about as far away as she was at college but the whole "another state" aspect is a little staggering. She graduated two years ago, returned home and lived here while she taught in a neighboring town.
I've known for almost two months that she'd be leaving but somehow it didn't really hit me until yesterday that last night was probably the last night she'd be spending at "home". Sure, she'll be back for holidays and visits but this house will no longer be where she lives.
I'll get through it, just as I got through it when she left for college and when her younger sister left for college. I've never been great with change but eventually I'll settle in to the new routine.
And you're right - when our children are babies we never think ahead to the day when they will be adults and have their own lives.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts so eloquently.

holy good dog but you're an amazing writer.

thank you, Amy.

Oh Wow. This is just beautiful, and oh-so-true. Thank you

Feisty Harriet

I wish you were my Mom.

You are an amazing mom and your kids know it! Love you and this made my eyes leak! I don't want my "babies" to ever leave.

Wow. Thank you for sharing this. It will be one I reread.
Take care,
