Amy Connell

Amy, this is beautiful! You really took me right along with you in hashing out the dichotomy of appreciating our body but being frustrated with it as well.

I love this! (I seriously don't come here often enough these days!)

A long time ago I was at a seminar where we had to rate something; two of our group chose to rate their bodies. The first was a good-looking chap who could have been a model. He gave his body a 6/10 and catalogued his body issues. The second was a decidedly average guy with glasses. He gave his body a 9 - "well, it works!". I loved that and tried ever since to emulate that attitude. When I'm in that difficult period of a half marathon (you know the bit, about 2/3 of the way through) I start thanking the various bits of my body that have made it all possible; they're working, and that is what is making my walk possible.
