I think feeling like a disappointed to your parents is one of the most universal and harmful parent/child dynamics. Some of our biggest fears as parents are that our children will make the same mistakes we did, and disappoint themselves the way we feel disappointed in our own selves. So we pass down this disappointment/fear which is really love, concern, hope and wanting a better life for them.
At least, that is what I thought about reading your post, and thinking about my mom and my kids. I don't know if it makes any sense.
Parenting is loving and letting go. It totally sucks and I don't think I'm very good at it, but this post makes me want to try harder to love without expectation or condition.
